Navigating Social Media's Undercurrents

Social media can be a powerful tool for connection, but it can also be a breeding ground for bullying, lying, theft (of content & ideas), and general toxicity. Recognizing these issues is the first step to protecting your peace.

Recognizing False Accusations

It is so important to recognize when someone is telling you something that may not be true. Gossip is a toxic trait that hurts all who partake in the practice. When a person repeats what they hear from another person regarding the life, actions, or beliefs of another person, it has a great potential to cause harm. One must ask themselves why this person concerns themselves with bringing this information forward. Is it for judgement? Is it even true? What was the source? Is there proof?

I have learned the destruction of gossip is as powerful as an atomic bomb. Perpetuated by liars who's only desire may be to be the center of attention. Consider this possibility for just a moment, what if what was being whispered in your ear were actually being whispered in another's ear regarding you? How would that feel? Would it matter to you? Maybe depending on what it was, try imagining the worst.

If one enjoys gossip, it is a sign that they run from themselves. If they take pleasure in the hardship of others, they need help. The best advice I ever had came from my grandmother when I was approximately three years old, "If you cannot say something nice, say nothing".

Protecting Your Energy: Strategies for Defense

When faced with bullying, lies, theft, or toxicity, remember that you have the power to protect yourself. Practical strategies include blocking those who spread negativity and speaking out against injustice when it is safe to do so.

Letting Go for Your Own

Well-being

The most important takeaway: don't feel bad about letting people go if they are not good for you. Prioritize your mental and emotional well-being above all else. Create a positively groovy life by removing toxicity.

The Evidence
